The Grimstones

The Grimstones is a family of gothic puppets I created from upcycled materials and junk. Starting out as a puppet show, The Grimstones toured Australia and internationally for five years before their final show in Nelson, New Zealand, in 2012. Although the marionettes are now enjoying retirement, Martha’s magnificent adventures have been captured in The Grimstones Book Series. Published by Allen and Unwin, the books are richly illustrated and with beautiful photographs of the puppets and their miniature world. The first in the series, Hatched, was commended for the best designed children’s series by APA Book Design Awards 2013 and was also chosen to represent Australian Illustrators at the 2012 Children’s International Book fair in Bologna, Italy. It has been translated into Finnish and Russian.
