This painting was inspired by how appalled I felt at seeing an ad in France which suggested we use a particular body lotion to accelerate our beauty. We women are surrounded by pressure to be beautiful, to spend our time, money and energy on ‘accelerating’ our beauty. In this painting, I wanted to show the woman’s body in natural form. It is already beautiful, and besides, beauty is not the point. We need to shift the focus onto what we want to do with our lives, and break free from the pressure to focus on how we look. That’s what this painting is about.
